Meet Dr. David Ackerman, B.S., D.C.

As I bent down to pick up a cone on the football field, I got hit, head on by a 6’ tall, 225 lb running back that was sprinting to the finish line. I thought I broke my neck!! There was no way I could get hit with such a force, and such an impact, without having any damage to my spine. I went to the emergency room and they performed tests including CAT scans and x-rays. When the results came back they said “nothing was wrong with me” and sent me home with 800 mg of Motrin.
The next day, I couldn’t turn my head! When I tried, I would get a sharp, shooting pain down both arms all the way into my finger tips. I have never felt so much pain and a feeling of helplessness in my life. Here I am with something obviously not right and all the “experts” are telling me “there is nothing wrong!” I was a healthy 21 year old, volunteering my time to this team and all I could think is that this was going to be permanent.
I had over heard some of the athletes on the team talking about how they have had similar injuries playing football and that the team Chiropractor fixed them, so I made an appointment with him as soon as I could. I remember that Friday as if it were yesterday. That Friday forever changed my life…
There is not a day that goes by that I am not thankful for the Chiropractor that treated me. He explained that when I got hit, the bones in my neck moved out of alignment and were pinching the nerves. That’s why I had the severe neck and arm pain. The medical doctors at the hospital are not trained to detect these misalignments nor correct them even if they do detect them. I don’t know where I would be if it wasn’t for this Chiropractor properly diagnosing and treating my condition.
This experience was so life altering, that I decided to dedicate my life to helping others. I completed my undergraduate degree in Exercise Physiology at the University at Buffalo and then applied to the Palmer College of Chiropractic, which is the first and largest chiropractic school in the world. I studied and learned the science, art, and philosophy of chiropractic, graduating at the top of my class.
Getting adjusted has not just been a way to stay out of pain; it has become a part of my healthy lifestyle. With my active lifestyle, I am constantly bending, twisting and playing various sports. As a result, I am constantly challenging my spine. Getting adjusted, keeps my spine in its normal, healthy alignment.
Many people wait for pain before having their spine checked. If you are experiencing pain, the problem could have been developing for months or even years and needs to be evaluated. As a chiropractor, we work with people who are in pain as well as people who are healthy and pro-active about maintaining their health. One of the ways we are pro-active is by incorporating exercises and nutritional recommendations which reinforce and strengthen your spine in addition to getting adjusted.
